THE FIVE AMIGOS

During Week 9 of Term 4, 2020, five Secondary students from our College participated in a Youth Explorer Voyage in the Training Ship Leeuwin: Celeston Fuller, Rohan Horne, Will Kerr, Christophe Yao, and Jack Flunder.  The ship departed Fremantle on Monday morning in gale force conditions which meant the boys had to find their sea legs quickly.   Fortunately, the weather improved as the week progressed and, as can be seen by the accompanying pics, the sun came out; the smiles returned to their faces, and there was even an opportunity to climb to the top of the mast.

The boys’ reflection of their experience can best be summed up by the message that Celeston wrote to Mr Trimble and Mr Scott upon his return:

“Dear Mr Trimble and Mr Scott,

Thank you for the amazing opportunity to sail the Leeuwin, it was a time in my life I will never forget. It was a blessing to be sponsored and have the help of the school to make this trip affordable for us. I made some of the best memories here and if it weren’t for the both of you, this would have never happened. Forever grateful.”  Celeston

Their places on the voyage were sponsored by Woodside, with a small supplementary co-contribution by the College, which left an affordable gap payment by the families.

Students who are interested in participating in future voyages in TS Leeuwin should contact Mr Scott.   Completion of a Youth Explorer Voyage is accredited by SCSA, and accrues one WACE point.
