From 5-12 July, our Head Girl, Shaylah Ryan-Sherriff took part in the 30th IYPT (International Young Physicists’ Tournament) held in Singapore as part of Team Australia. Our Physics teacher, Mr Gideon Choo was one of the Team Leaders and Jurors. Ms Carly Phoebe, Head of Physical Education and Ms Belinda ‘t Hart, Head of Humanities, also accompanied the team for the trip.
The Australian team was made up of 5 students. Overall, the team emerged 18th out of 30 countries. Shaylah had a successful outing as her scores were among the highest scorers in the Australian team and she boosted the team’s performance throughout the tournament. Her scores can be found at https://cc.iypt.org/.
On the non-competition side of things, Shaylah had the chance to meet many young budding scientists, teachers and professors from around the world. The participants were also treated to many tourist attractions in Singapore such as Universal Studios and Gardens by the Bay.
It was an extremely enriching and eye-opening experience throughout and this is what Shaylah had to say: “Not only was the IYPT an amazing endeavour to expand my knowledge of physics concepts and application but it was also a truly wonderful opportunity to meet people from all over the world. With our shared interest in physics and the overall friendly atmosphere of the competition I have come away with friends from Austria to Iran to the US and many in between as well as an educational experience like no other.
