WA PRIMARY SCHOOL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Last Friday our Primary School won the 14th Sport WA Stan Lazaridis Open Champions Cup State Championships. It is the third year in a row that our Primary School teams have made the State Finals.

The College had two Primary School teams qualify for this event by winning (Year 6 team) and placing second (Year 5 team) in the Bobby Despotovski Peel Region Championships.

The two teams played in opposite sides of the W.A. State Champions Cup. Other schools involved in the State Finals were Jamie Harnwell Northern Region Champions Connolly and Runners Up Mindarie. Jason Petkovic Southern Region Champions Coogee and Runners Up Newton and Gareth Naven Eastern Region Champions Trinity College and Runners Up Riverton.

The two South Coast Baptist College Teams were successful in the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals which were elimination matches and the Year 5 team played the Year 6 team in the Primary State Football Championships. The final was nil all at half time. The year 6 Team eventually ran out winners 3 nil in the second half. It is the first time that a school has had two teams make the Grand Final of the State Football Championships in 14 years. A picture of the Champions Cup is below. This is currently displayed in our College’s front reception area.

Our College has a Football Academy which focusses on high quality player and skill acquisition and development. This is only the second year that the Football Academy has run in the Primary School.
