THE STAN LAZARIDIS 15TH PRIMARY SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Our Year 5 & 6 football teams represented the College at the 15th Primary School State Championships at Beale Park in Spearwood this evening. The other schools who qualified for this event by placing first or second in their region included Connolly, Coogee, Trinity, Banksia Park, Riverton and Mindarie.

In the Quarter Finals the Year 6 Boys played Banksia Park, winning their match 5 goals to nil. The Year 5 Boys played Connolly, who proved a strong opposition. The Year 5’s won their quarter final 3 goals to 1 and both SCBC teams progressed to the state semi-finals.

The Semi Finals saw our Year 6 Boys play Riverton, and again they proved too strong with a 4 goal to nil win. The Year 5’s played a great game against Coogee and also won their way through to the state final with a 2-0 result.

For the second year running the State Grand Final was played by our two SCBC teams. The Event Coordinator commented on the credibility of the football program at the College. It is only the second time in the Primary School State Finals that a school has won the championship in two consecutive years. The Year 6 Boys were too strong for our Year 5’s in the Grand Final and ran away with a convincing eight goal win.

Individual mentions should be directed towards Oliver Stagg (Yr 6), the Jamie Harnwell medallist (Player of the tournament), and to Theo Leeming (Yr 5) who was awarded the fair play award for the night. I trust that everyone who attended enjoyed a well organised event and the excellent skills of the students across the evening’s matches.

Special thanks to Mr Tony Carvijal (Tournament Director) for this wonderful opportunity and to Michelle Sparkes for her professional photographs of these events – https://www.michellesparkesphotography.com
