All our Pre-Primary students had the opportunity to experience the benefits of intergenerational music-making at Brightwater The Oak, Waikiki in Term 3. Interacting with someone from a much older generation in a controlled and supervised manner promotes physical and mental wellbeing for everyone involved. Students learn how to have positive attitudes towards ageing and develop skills in communicating with someone different from them.
Music is a wonderful and accessible way to cross the age barrier since music is a universal language. We sang songs together, played instruments and used scarves to interpret the music we listened to. The music sessions brought great joy and enjoyment to the residents. Our school’s mission statement “Rigorous Minds & Compassionate Heart” have been displayed in our local community through our Pre-Primary students in a wonderful way.
