SCBC “FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR A CAUSE”

Last week our Secondary students and staff visited Salvos Rockingham and spoke to members of the homeless community as part of a unique STEAM project. The project was designed to combine STEAM with making a difference in the lives of the homeless community in our area. One group of Year 8 students will be putting down their impression of the lives of the community in art lessons.

Another group of Year 8 student’s will produce videos or brochures that include scientific information on best sources of food, clothing, water supply and shelter. This information is then passed on to the community members.

At the same time, students will be able to keep their work as their STEAM portfolio for their future tertiary course or job applications. This project is the brainchild of the school’s Technologies, Art and Science staff and included partnering with the Salvation Army.

A showcase event is planned at the end of the project. We are thrilled to look forward to the amazing work to be displayed by the students.
