November month has been a very busy time in our Childcare Centre!! With Remembrance Day, national recycle week and outdoor classroom day, our children have been kept very busy with all their learning experiences.
Remembrance Day is a tricky subject to broach with young children but teaching our children about the symbols of remembrance was a good starting point. During the activities the Educators talked about how poppies are a symbol of war veterans, and how some of our great-grandfathers had fought for Australia when they were young, and how some of our great-grandmothers had served as a nurse in the war when she was young too, so we could have a better life. All the children contributed to our making poppies from babies to our kinder children.
National recycle week was fun too!! Thank you to all our community who donated their recycled items so our children could use them in throughout the week. There was lots of construction and water play created through simple donations from home. It was fantastic being a part of the Planet Ark National Recycling Week bringing a focus to the environmental benefits of recycling.
Our Centre absolutely loved taking part in the National Outdoor Classroom Day. We are so blessed to have the environments that we have, it was like our Centre was built for this purpose. Furniture was relocated outside, eating was outside even sleeping was offered outside. There was lots of water play, art, painting, sand play, nature play, games, ice painting it was so much fun. It is such an important day of the year. When adults think back to their own happiest memories of childhood, they frequently recall the joy of playing outdoors. Play is not only central to children’s enjoyment of childhood but teaches critical life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and creativity. What was even more special is that our children could interact throughout the whole day with the older children from the school that were participating in the same activity. We are finally feeling like summer has arrived and we can’t wait to see what fun we get up to leading up to Christmas.
