MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD OF PRIMARY

It’s certainly been an interesting Term for our students, teachers, and families alike. The final newsletter of the term allows us to reflect on the challenges we have faced, the conclusion of Term 2, and our movement to Term 3. The commencement of this term saw 75% of our Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students return to on-campus, face to face teaching in the classroom, and 51% of Year 1 to 6 students also returning to their classrooms. To commence Week 3 we had close to full student attendance across the Primary School, though restrictions saw students farewelled at entrance points to the College by their families. Nearly every normal activity that would take place across the term, had to be cancelled or rescheduled, including assemblies, excursions, camps, incursions, NAPLAN testing, sporting events, and activities that would normally take place across the week.

From the beginning of Week 7 parents were able to return on campus for morning drop offs and pick-ups. Last Wednesday saw our Year 6’s able to participate in a Winter Sports Carnival involving the sports of Volleyball, Australian Rules Football, Soccer and Netball without parent spectators as part of the first post Covid-19 carnival at several venues across the City of Cockburn. I’m sure that our Year 6 students were just grateful to have the opportunity to play sport against other schools again.

This Friday the 3rd of July all Primary School parents should receive a copy of the Term 3 Primary Events Calendar for 2020, which outlines the main events across the oncoming term. An electronic version of the Calendar will be available shortly on the Primary School tab at the following link on the College website: https://www.scbc.wa.edu.au/portal/parents-area/ Student progress interviews can be booked online, for a face to face meeting with your child’s classroom teacher early in Term 3 to discuss your child’s academic progress over the first semester. We are trusting that West Australian rates of infection of Covid-19 remain low and that we can have a rather normal second semester of the year in the Primary School.

All students will commence Term 3 at South Coast Baptist College on Wednesday the 22nd of July. With Western Australia’s further easing of restrictions over the holiday period, we look forward to a busy calendar once again. This will see our weekly Year 1 to 6 Assemblies commence, School Photographs, House and Interschool Cross Country events, the Football Regional and State Championships for boys and girls,  Interschool League-Tag, the Musique Music Festival,  our  Junior Primary Athletics Carnival (PP to Year 2), Kindergarten and Pre-Primary Father’s Day events, incursions and excursions and other events take place once again.

Over this term, we have been blessed with increasing enrolments across the College. This will see the Primary School with two additional classes in 2021. Our Kindergarten will have four full classes and we will have three classes of each other year groups, from years 1 to 6. All year groups are filling very quickly, with many year groups extremely close to full for next year, and some year groups in a similar situation for 2022. If you have friends or families interested in attending the College please let them know that they will need to make contact early to avoid disappointment!

The Primary Staff wish our students and families a safe, healthy, and enjoyable Winter holiday break. We look forward to welcoming back our students for an eventful second semester.
