YEAR 10

Greetings, our Year 10 students have had a busy and exciting start to Term 2. We have been continuing with our focus on careers, in particular subject selections. Belinda van der Linde is a careers advisor who has joined us this term, and we have valued her assistance in helping students organise their subjects for next year. Students have been proactive in visiting their teachers and having conversations about what subjects they want to do in Years 11 and 12. I have been enjoying seeing students step up and become passionate about their desired careers!

To expose students to a range of career options, as a cohort we visited the Careers Exhibition at the Perth Convention Centre. This was an excellent day and I have been so encouraged by the feedback from students about the day:

“I found a university I didn’t know existed. One that can help me find a career in film and media” – Isabelle Coto

“The expo showed gave me a wide range of job opportunities for to explore into the future” – Cooper McQueen

“I had the opportunity to talk to people in different industries and discovered careers I didn’t know existed” – Angelina Montini.

Year 10 students also have been presented with an opportunity to apply for the Try-A-Trade program. This program allows students to gain an experience working in a particular trade. For those interested, the link following has more information and will allow you to apply for this opportunity. https://ctf.wa.gov.au/construction-futures/try-a-trade

A huge congratulations is also in-order to Harrison Williams, Charlie Ogier, Maddison Lewis and Caitlyn Martin who all were selected to participate in the KiC iMen and iWomen projects. These projects allow students to gain first-hand experience in key industries along the Kwinana Industrial Strip.

Lastly, we have some key events coming up such as the Year 10 Examinations running during Week 6 and a guest speaker, Jade Lewis, coming in to deliver a presentation called ‘No to Drugs’ in Week 7.

Exams can often cause some anxiety, in situations like this I am often reminded of the following verse:

'Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.' (Isaiah 41:10)

This is a constant reminder that Jesus is our support in situations of hardship and stress, we simply need to put it all in his hands.

A busy yet exciting time for all Year 10’s! I look forward to seeing students finish this Semester with perseverance and excellence.
