‘Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble’ (Eccl 4: 9-10 NLT)
Year 7 are continuing their awesome journey into High School. Of late we have been impressed by their thoughtfulness to others as well as their greetings when we see them around the College. At our recent Cross Country/House Day we witnessed excellent teamwork and commitment from our cohort as they ran in the cross country and participated in the House activities afterwards. A highlight with students was the Boost Juice van at break time.
In this newsletter we highlight our Year 7 – Yakkan Form class, with some news from Mrs Darch about the happenings from their form. We also highlight our locker decorating competition and remind you about our upcoming Parent/Guardian Evening.
YAKKAN FORM CLASS NEWS
Wow, what an awesome year we’ve had so far in our Year 7 Yakkan form. We finished off Term 1 with winning the Swimming Carnival – Go Yakkan!
Our students did an incredible job getting involved and swimming for our house and ultimately it was the extremely high level of participation that got us the win. We had a great time celebrating and enjoying the reward of pizza in Form.
In Week 2 of this term, we had our Cross Country and House Day. Well done again to our Yakkan students that got involved, ran the course and got us some more points for our House. We’d love to give a special mention to Hanna Marchlewicz who came 3rd out of all of all Year 7 girls – well done Hanna!
After the cross country finished, we enjoyed the rest of the day in our form class competing against the other Year 7 Forms in some team building games. Although we didn’t take out the overall win here, we had heaps of fun completing our tasks that included creating the most impressive spaghetti and marshmallow tower, putting googly eyes on objects, catching as many flies as possible and performing a re-enactment of a nursery rhyme. Another special mention goes to Teliah Masterman who wowed the crowd with a backflip to win the nursery rhyme task.
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our House events so far and we’re looking forward to many more coming up – we’re getting geared up to take the win at the Athletics Carnival next Term!
YEAR 7 LOCKER DECORATING COMPETITION
A big thanks to the Year 7 student councillors who organised our inaugural locker decorating competition for Year 7. Participating students decorated their lockers with their own theme for a chance to win a $20, $10 or $5 chocolate prize. The aim of the competition was to foster pride in our personal space and encourage organisation. Each entry in the competition was thoughtfully put together and displayed a high degree of effort and creativity; making it extra hard to determine the winners!
The winners were:
1st – Amber Strevett
2nd – Zoe Wojtowicz
3rd – Lucinda Strutt
All students who participated scored house tokens and lollies for their efforts. Thank you Year 7’s. Thank you also to Erin Lynch (Secondary Student Council Prefect), Mr King and Mr Winkler for being our awesome judges.
PARENT/GUARDIAN CONNECT EVENING
Year 7 families, please don’t forget our Parent Connect evening on Tuesday ,14th June, beginning at 6:00 pm and concluding at 7:30pm. The venue for this event is the foyer of the STEAM Building.
The purpose of this evening is partly to replace the cancelled Parent Evening of Term 1, but also to connect with you and inform you about the journey ahead as your child continues to transition into adolescence. We would also like to give you the opportunity to connect with other parents of the Year 7 community.
Please reserve your place via email (secondary@scbc.wa.edu.au) by Thursday, 9th June, to Secondary Administration.
Rainer Winkler, Head of Year 7
