For Book Week, we focused on activities that were based on Bambini’s favourite stories, linking book week activities with their current learning. We played with some rubber ducks in a tub of water from ‘5 Little ducks’ and we cooked Anzac biscuits (that they loved), from the book ‘The Magic Possum’. The children got to help pour all the ingredients into a bowl and mix them all together. We had to rescue some animals stuck in a big spider web, from ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider.’ There was coloured spaghetti sensory play from ‘Rainbow Unicorn,’ and we dressed up as 101 Dalmatians as well as Where’s Wally. It was a super fun week!
For Science Week, the children were able to explore some exciting science experiments and experiences. We started off with an experience about our bodies. We looked at ourselves in the mirror and pointed at our body parts then also pointed at the pictures of the body parts stuck to the mirror. The children practised finding their mouth, eyes, nose etc and learned the words for their body parts.
We also explored some sensory ice cubes with herbs, flowers, and lemons in them. The children were feeling the ice and tried to get to the items inside. They tasted the ice too. They were exploring with their senses. We also had some sensory oil/water bags and bottles. The children are still enjoying these up to a month later.
