It has been a great term for our Year 8 students, lots of friendships built and memories made. Our students are growing and developing lifelong skills to help them succeed in their futures.
Our extended form time on Thursday has been focused on developing our teenagers with their social, emotional, and cognitive development. We were lucky to have Elevate Education working with our students to support them with study skills and organisation. We will continue this work with refresher activities in Term 3.
Our GEM (Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Literacy) program continues, and we have added additional five-minute well-being activities to meet the current needs of our students. These cover topics like connecting with classmates, healthy friendship groups, growth mindset, and inclusivity. Our form classes are now wonderful spaces to be in and we will continue to grow these.
Mrs. Van der Linde, our VET and Careers Coordinator organised some guest speakers to talk to our students last week to illustrate how there are many pathways and options ahead. Doug Hesketh’s story illustrated to them that their careers may not be linear and there might be many detours. However, having the right attitude and working hard will create opportunities, and never say never, as you never know when you might get the opportunity to do what you love. Warren Tarboton, a SCBC alumni, spoke to students about his time in Year 8, the importance of friendships, and doing what you love. Students were excited to see his unmanned combat arial vehicles and hear about the engineering and development process.
We are looking forward to rounding up this term with our Year 8 Social Movie Night in week 10. Another fantastic opportunity to build relationships, strengthen our year group, and celebrate another wonderful term together.
As always, supporting our students involves a strong partnership between parents, school and child. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. Wishing you all a safe and relaxing break.
