FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear College Families

Term 3 has certainly flown by fast!

We congratulate our Champion students who have achieved victory on the sports fields. You would have heard about the remarkable wins of our Sports teams and Football Academy.

In summary South Coast Baptist College commends our:

  • Senior Boys School Sports WA Champions
  • Intermediate Boys School Sports WA Champions
  • Junior Girls School Sports WA Champions
  • Senior Girls ACC Champions
  • ACC Inter School Athletics Division Team first place overall.

We were all very excited to see our students achieve such distinction in sports with the acknowledgement that it takes certain skillsets to achieve such levels of proficiency. These skills are skills for life because they embrace teamwork, collaboration, communication, negotiation, diligence. Similarly, the Vocal Academy and Drama Department presented their version for the College Production of “School of Rock” which was outstanding and showcased our students’ talents and capacities. Well done to our Director of Drama Ms Rochelle Parker for her vision, and to the entire team who worked with her to enable our students to reach such excellence!

Congratulations to our Primary school for their Production of ‘Robyn and the Sherwood Hoodies’. Another opportunity to commend the work of our talented students and our staff team and Primary Director of Music, Ms Pam Dale. Similarly, we congratulate Ms Hannalie Peck and our students for their amazing work for the Music Festival. Commendations also to our Primary student team for their excellent results in the IPSHA Speaker’s Challenge at Scotch College this term. Well done!

You would remember that we surveyed families for the development of our next Strategic Plan. Thank you to families for their participation. We received 700 submissions which provided us with comprehensive coverage of the community’s thoughts and responses. In summary the families of the school, students and staff are satisfied with most of what the school offers but there are areas to be targeted to be enhanced. This will be captured in the vision and plans to come.

We have been engaging with stakeholders through workshops and consultations to ensure the next plan will address priority areas to value add to the future. I thank the student representatives for their excellent contributions to the process during the student workshops and I thank the parents who came one early morning for the coffee and chat. The surveys have demonstrated the heart of what really matters to our parent community. We are a Christian, quality school providing a variety of opportunities for our students and this will be enhanced with specific strategies for excellence in our academic, well-being, sports, research, quality teaching programs and student opportunities that will come.

I am very excited about our Strategic Plan which is shaping up to present a model of schooling excellence to inspire and promote what is best for our students. Once our Board has ratified the Strategic Plan, the plan will be launched early 2024 and you will hear more in the new year about the plans for SCBC’s amazing future.

The College Executive Team, Head boy and Head girl, the Senior Minister of Rockingham Baptist Church and the Chaplain joined together to represent SCBC at the Governor’s Prayer breakfast on September 8th early in the morning, at Burswood. Several other school representatives attended and other invited members of the Perth community. It was a very special occasion to come together as Christians to worship God and pray for our city and state. We were very appreciative of the opportunity to unite with fellow Perth citizens for such a special and meaningful occasion.

As we close the term, I wish to congratulate our Year 12s for their commitment to their studies. It has been a pleasure to host our graduating cohort at the Principal and Year 12 brunches at which the Executive Team, Head of Year 12 and Form teachers attended to join with me in celebrating our students in an informal and congenial way. We look forward to providing our Year 12s and their parents/guardians with a more formal and outstanding Graduation ceremony early next term. We wish our Year 12s every blessing for the finish of their studies, with a wonderful future ahead.
