Earlier this month, over 70 students from 3 different schools gathered at Murdoch University for an exciting two-day-long hackathon focused on using technology to solve problems in their schools. After much collaboration and innovative thinking, SCBC came away with first and third place!
The winning team developed an app that pairs incoming Year 7 students with Year 11 students based on shared interests. The app then helps monitor the Year 7 students’ wellbeing and transition throughout their first year of secondary school. A thoughtful way to foster connections and support our newest students!
The hackathon challenged students to brainstorm and rapidly prototype solutions to issues they see in their school environment. Rather than completed products, the focus was on demonstrating proof of concepts and articulating how their ideas could have real impact.
