GYMSPORTS

House Cup

Congratulations to WIDI House for winning the 2024 Gymsports House Cup! Students from across the college participated on Tuesday, June 18th, in three exciting sessions. The event included academy students, co-curricular students, and our Year 7 and Year 9 elective students, competing in both trampolining and artistic gymnastics. We were honored to have qualified professional judges from across the state to adjudicate. A big thanks to our gymsports staff for organizing a fantastic day and to all the supportive parents who came to watch. Well done to everyone involved!

Achievements

Representatives from the South Coast Baptist College Trampoline Academy recently competed for the Western Australian team at the Gymnastics Australia National Championships on the Gold Coast. Congratulations to coach Leo Kimble and athletes Oscar and Evie for their selection onto the Team following a long qualification process.

Year 11 student Evie stepped up into the Senior International Open division following her successes in the Junior competitions in 2023. Evie and her partner Kate from Peak Trampoline picked up the bronze medal in the synchronised event following two solid routines. In the Individual competition Evie, who incidentally was the youngest competitor by more than 4 years, was competing against the best female athletes from the Oceania region including multiple National Champion and former Youth Olympian Abbie Watts from South Australia as well as Olympian Madaline Davidson from New Zealand. Despite the initial intimidation, Evie performed well enough in her prelim rounds to reach the final in 10th place. In the final, where the scores were reset to zero, Evie put out her best routine so far this year and ended up jumping up the rankings to a 3rd place finish. This was an incredible result and will prepare Evie well for her next big competition in July where she will Represent Australia in two Portuguese competitions.
