PIKANINI TWO

Throughout the month of May to the second week of June, we have been focusing on matching shapes and colours, connecting magnet tiles, using tongs to pick up cotton balls, and observing the development of small hand muscles and finger strength as they grasp the tongs. We also focused on stacking shapes. The children have shown an interest in scissors and paper cutting with help and guidance from the educators, and they are given challenging activities such as threading cotton reels. They persevere even if it’s difficult, but after a few attempts, they can complete the task with big smiles on their faces, proud of their achievement. Another activity the children get involved in is shopping. They walk around carrying food plates, shopping baskets, recycled cardboard cornflakes, and food boxes. They enjoy playing ‘cafe’ in the cubby house, ordering food from their friends such as ‘chips and nuggets’, ‘chai latte’ and ‘baby chino’, and paying with leaves and sticks. We will create a space in our home corner for a ‘cafe’ to extend the children’s interest.

At Forum time, we continued to read a story from the children’s bible, “David and Goliath “, which was requested by a child, and we did lots of singing with musical instruments.

Outdoors, the children and educators used water from the tanks to water our plants, and out in the Wild Space Area, they have been cleaning and digging out weeds to be ready for planting herbs.
