YEAR 1 – KINGS PARK

On a bright, sunny morning, the Year 1 students embarked on an exciting excursion to Kings Park, one of the largest and most beautiful inner-city parks in the world. The children, buzzing with anticipation, boarded the bus with their teachers, ready for a day of exploration and learning.

Upon arrival, the group was greeted by a park ranger who shared fascinating stories about the park’s history and its significance to the local Noongar people. The students listened intently, their eyes wide with wonder as they learned about the diverse flora and fauna that call Kings Park home.

The first stop on the tour was the Botanic Garden, where the children marveled at the vibrant wildflowers and towering trees. They were especially intrigued by the Boab tree, which stood majestically with its unique, swollen trunk. The ranger explained how this tree was transported all the way from the Kimberley region, sparking awe and curiosity among the young explorers.

Next, the students participated in a group hunt, eagerly searching for various plants and animals. This hands-on activity not only kept them engaged but also helped them understand the importance of biodiversity and conservation. The children’s laughter echoed through the park as they worked together, sharing discoveries and helping each other.

After a morning of adventure, it was time for a picnic lunch. The group gathered under the shaded area, enjoying their sandwiches and fruit while talking about their discoveries.

The excursion included a visit to the Parkland playground and Nature Scape water hole. Here, the children climbed, swung, and slid to their hearts’ content, burning off any remaining energy. The waterhole added an extra layer of excitement, making it a highlight of the trip.

As the day drew to a close, the Year 1 students reluctantly boarded the bus, tired but happy. They chattered about their favourite moments. The excursion to Kings Park had not only provided them with a memorable experience but also instilled a deeper appreciation for nature and the environment.
