Term 3 has been very busy in the Bambini Room. We thoroughly enjoyed our sensory activities, where we introduced different coloured pasta to enhance their tactile experience and foster an appreciation for vibrant colours. They played and interacted with each other, observing how the pasta slipped through their fingers. The slimy texture and vibrant hues of the coloured spaghetti captivated them, encouraging exploration. This activity sparked their creativity and imagination and supported the development of fine motor skills as they discovered various ways to engage with the spaghetti during play.
In celebration of NAIDOC week, we had a group of children engaged in a creative painting experience using finger painting as sensory exploration. The children enjoyed smearing the paint onto the snake. The children engaged in a footprint painting to express creativity and a sense of touch. We used bright colours and displayed these intending to support a sense of belonging. The children loved feeling the cool paint on their feet and toes.
The children had so much fun with various musical instruments that they all loved engaging with them. The children were encouraged to bang on the drums with paint brushes and their hands to explore different sounds they could make.
We had a dentist visit us for Dental Week. We joined with Pikanini 2 room. Children were reminded about the importance of brushing their teeth every morning and before bed. The children paid attention while the dentist demonstrated how to brush their teeth and while singing, making it both educational and engaging for them.
During Science Week, we hosted a series of engaging activities. Each day featured exciting experiments that allowed the children to explore different concepts. One popular activity involved ice cubes filled with hidden fruit. The children eagerly placed their hands into the bowls to feel the ice cubes, although some were surprised by the cold and pulled their hands away. They also enjoyed tasting and sucking on the icy treats.
We gathered around the sandpit with our Pikanini Two friends to witness a big volcano explosion. The children were full of curiosity as they watched Mrs Joy pour bicarbonate of soda, food dye, and vinegar into the volcano. Together, we counted down from five and excitedly watched the eruption unfold.
For Book Week, the children had a wonderful time painting the hungry caterpillar green, along with vibrant fruits—red for apples, yellow for bananas, and orange for oranges. The children especially loved the experience, using their hands to explore the texture and sensation of the paint while creating their artwork. The activity was not only fun but also encouraged sensory exploration and creativity.
