YEAR 4 STUDENTS EXPLORE FREMANTLE’S RICH HISTORY

The Year 4 students recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to Fremantle, where they had the opportunity to deepen their historical understanding through hands-on learning experiences. The trip featured visits to two iconic locations: Fremantle Prison and the WA Maritime Museum, both of which offered invaluable insights into Western Australia’s past.

At Fremantle Prison, students toured the historic building and its cells, gaining a vivid sense of what life was like for the convicts transported to the Swan River Colony. The tales of infamous convicts, including the notorious Moondyne Joe and his daring escapes, captured the students’ imaginations. After enjoying a picnic lunch at the Esplanade Park, the group continued on to the WA Maritime Museum. Here, students explored a variety of exhibits showcasing Western Australia’s maritime heritage. From historic vessels to stories of seafaring adventures, the museum offered a fascinating glimpse into the state’s connection with the sea.

The Year 4 teachers and students extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful parent helpers who generously gave their time to support the excursion. Their assistance contributed greatly to the success of this memorable day of learning and exploration.
