As we reflect on a successful year, we’re proud to highlight the incredible achievements of our students in the Duke of Edinburgh Program.
Launched this year, the Duke of Edinburgh offers students the chance to earn an internationally recognised award by engaging in activities they are passionate about. Through this program, students can develop new skills, improve their physical fitness, and give back to their communities, all while challenging themselves and gaining a sense of accomplishment.
The program is structured around three key areas: Physical Recreation, Skills, and Voluntary Service. These categories allow students to pursue activities that align with their interests and talents. With a wide range of options available, the program is tailored to each student’s personal passions and goals.
This year, we saw students from Year 9 to Year 11 participating at the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. Notably, one student has already completed their Silver level and is now working toward the prestigious Gold level.
Throughout the year, our students have embraced numerous opportunities, from Physical Recreation activities such as netball, Muay Thai, CrossFit, and swimming, to Skills pursuits like learning to drive, playing the bass guitar, and training as an IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) crew member.
In the Voluntary Service category, students have demonstrated commitment to giving back to their communities. They’ve volunteered in a variety of ways, including patrolling at local Surf Life Saving Clubs, leading youth groups, and coaching younger students in netball.
In addition, the students took part in Adventurous Journeys, an essential component of the Duke of Edinburgh award. These journeys saw students going on exciting youth camps, surfing camps, Scripture Union Beach Camps, Outward Bound adventures, and even international trips.
As we look ahead, we would love to see even more students take up this incredible opportunity in 2025. Whether students are already undertaking activities in each category or looking to challenge themselves further, the Duke of Edinburgh offers a unique way to grow, achieve, and contribute to the community.
There will be an information night early in Term 1, where you can learn more about the program and how to get involved. We encourage all students to consider joining and making the most of this fantastic opportunity in the new year
