KINDERGARTEN FROG POND PROJECT

In line with the Reggio Emilia approach, South Coast Baptist College’s Kindergarten classes have relaunched a project to foster curiosity through hands-on learning with a frog pond, originally created by Pre-Primary students in 2018. The pond, named Mia Mia Kooya Kep (Noongar for “Home of Frog Water”), was developed to explore local biodiversity.

This year, with the help of artist Justin from Djurandi Dreaming, the project has expanded to include a frog-themed mural, clay animal track discs, and the addition of more tadpoles to the pond. Planned activities also include an incursion with the WA Gould League, focusing on bush tucker and native plants.

Regular visits to the pond have sparked lively discussions and explorations of tadpole behaviour, habitat needs, and frog sounds, aiming to encourage children’s natural curiosity and connection to the environment.
