Throughout the year, students in Year 6 had the opportunity to participate in a lunchtime group, Subs in Schools, with a focus on developing skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Earlier this term, four groups of students represented the school at the WA State Final, which was held at Garden Island Naval Base.
The Subs in Schools Competition is a nationwide event that challenges students to design, build, and test their own remotely operated underwater vehicles. These vehicles must be capable of completing various underwater trials and teams were judged on factors such as innovation, functionality, presentation and teamwork. The competition aims to inspire young minds to explore STEM careers while fostering practical, hands-on learning experiences. Participants developed essential skills in engineering design, problem-solving, and collaboration—all while having fun!
Congratulations to our four teams on their entry into this year’s WA State Final – Oceanic Archaeology, Sub Wars and Sea Stalkers, and a special mention to our competition runners-up – Atlantic Subs! Fantastic work!
