KIC ISCIENCE PROJECT

Three Year 10 students, Noel Toms, Frederick Huggins, Shantanu Raghavan recently embarked on an enriching journey through the KIC iSCIENCE Project, gaining invaluable insights into the diverse science-based industries within the Kwinana Industrial Area (KIA). The program, designed for students considering ATAR pathways and future university studies, provided a unique opportunity to explore career options and witness firsthand the practical applications of science in the workforce.
The iSCIENCE Project, aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world industry experiences. Participants were immersed in a comprehensive program that included site tours of various KIA industries, allowing them to witness the daily operations and interact with professionals in diverse roles.
“It was eye-opening to see the sheer variety of jobs available within the KIA,” said one participating student. “We got to see how science is used in so many different ways, from engineering to environmental management.”
Beyond industry visits, students participated in a series of workshops designed to enhance their personal and professional development. These workshops covered essential skills such as resume writing, mock interviews, social media etiquette, and health and wellbeing, equipping students with valuable tools for their future academic and career pursuits.
A highlight of the program was the collaboration with Murdoch University. Students engaged in a full-day incursion of hands-on STEM activities with the Murdoch University Outreach Team, providing a taste of university-level learning.
