Black Swan Excursion

Year 11 ATAR and 12 General Black Swan Excursion

On Friday 13th June, our Year 11 ATAR and Year 12 General Drama students had the incredible opportunity to take part in a full-day workshop with Black Swan Theatre Company at the Subiaco Arts Centre. This hands-on excursion was designed to support students in the lead-up to their Term 3 production of Hoods. The day focused on two key elements of theatre-making: ensemble performance and set design. Students were guided by industry professionals who shared valuable insights and techniques used in professional theatre. From dynamic movement exercises to collaborative staging activities, the workshop strengthened the students’ understanding of how to work as a unified ensemble — a crucial aspect of Hoods, which relies on shared storytelling and fluid character transitions. In the design sessions, students explored how set, space, and minimalism can be used creatively to build the world of a play. They sketched ideas, experimented with materials, and considered how staging choices affect audience experience. We feel incredibly fortunate to have partnered with such experienced theatre-makers. Their expertise and encouragement have given our students renewed confidence and creative energy as they prepare for their production. We can’t wait to see these ideas come to life on stage next term!
