In our Year 1C classroom at SCBC, students have been engaged in a rich inquiry project inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, exploring the concept of push and pull forces through the creation of a collaborative marble run.
Guided by curiosity and creativity, students shared ideas on how to increase the speed of the marble, with one suggestion leading to the decision to position the starting point higher in the playground. Throughout the process, students experimented with different materials and designs, initially constructing the run using cardboard tubes and cable ties. When challenges arose, such as materials softening or obstructing the marble’s movement, students thoughtfully reflected, problem-solved, and adapted their approach.
By listening to and building on each other’s ideas, the class refined their design, ultimately creating a more effective structure that allowed the marble to travel smoothly. This learning experience highlights the power of collaboration, perseverance, and student voice, demonstrating how our learners actively construct knowledge through hands-on exploration and shared inquiry.
