STUDENTS EXCEL IN NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY COMPETITION

A group of secondary students from South Coast Baptist College recently participated in PECAN+, a national cybersecurity competition. The students are part of the college’s extracurricular Ethical Hacking group, which is included in our Gifted and Talented program. They competed for the first time in this event, which was held over a weekend in August at Edith Cowan University (ECU).

In preparation for the competition, the students received expert training during Term 2 from a representative of the Australian Signals Directorate, further enhancing their skills and knowledge in ethical hacking. One standout team, the “Pink Fluffy Unicorns”, delivered an exceptional performance in the intermediate category, narrowly missing out on a prize. Their remarkable achievement is especially impressive considering it was their first time competing in PECAN+.

The students’ success reflects their hard work and dedication, and the college is immensely proud of their achievements in this rapidly growing field.

As well as our extracurricular Cyber Security program, the College also offers Digital Technologies and Game Development in Years 7 and 8, transitioning to Computer Science in Years 9 and 10. For Years 11 and 12, the College offers General Applied Information Technology and ATAR Computer Science.
