It has been a busy term, with the Primary Enrichment and Extension opportunities in Math, Science, Finance, History and English.

Year 6 Young Writers Workshop – Fremantle

Year 6 students had the exciting opportunity to attend a Young Writers Workshop in Fremantle with acclaimed Perth author Mark Greenwood. Known as a ‘history detective,’ Mark captivated students with his research-driven storytelling, focusing on fascinating local historical events. Students explored the process of uncovering hidden stories from the past, inspiring their own creative writing.

Year 5 History Enrichment – Jarrahdale POW Camp

As part of the Unearthing Rockingham enrichment program, Year 5 students visited the Prisoner of War camp in Jarrahdale. This excursion provided valuable insights into Western Australia’s wartime history, helping students prepare for their upcoming research presentations in Term 2.

Year 5 & 6 Mathematics Extension – Have Sum Fun Challenge

A combined team of Year 5 and 6 Mathematics Extension students represented the school at the Have Sum Fun competition at Nedlands Primary School. This fast-paced, problem-solving challenge tested students’ mathematical reasoning, teamwork, and strategic thinking as they worked through a series of increasingly difficult questions. Competing against other schools, our students demonstrated resilience and collaboration, making it an exciting and rewarding experience.

Year 6 Financial Literacy – Barefoot Kids

As part of the Barefoot Kids financial literacy program, Year 6 students explored real-world money management by taking on jobs at home and in their communities. To support their journey, a Secondary School student visited to share practical advice on earning and saving money. This visit sparked great discussions and provided inspiration for students looking to take their first steps toward financial independence.

World Maths Day Participation

Students from Years 1 to 6 enthusiastically participated in World Maths Day, an international online mathematics competition hosted by Mathletics. This event saw millions of students from over 150 countries engage in exciting math challenges, fostering a global spirit of learning and competition. citeturn0search2 South Coast Baptist College was among the numerous schools worldwide that took part, providing our students with the opportunity to test their skills against peers from around the globe. The event not only enhanced their mathematical abilities but also promoted a love for the subject through interactive and competitive activities.

Year 6 Science Enrichment – Synergy Schools Solar Challenge

The term concluded with Year 6 Science Enrichment students competing in the Synergy Schools Solar Challenge at Southern River College. In this hands-on STEM event, students designed, built, and raced solar-powered model cars, applying their knowledge of renewable energy and engineering. Their problem-solving skills and teamwork were put to the test as they fine-tuned their designs for maximum speed and efficiency, making it a thrilling end to the term.
