Bright and energetic, our Year 4 students set off on a much-anticipated excursion to Fremantle. The adventure began with a guided tour of Fremantle Prison, where students discovered the history of the prison and the Swan River Penal Colony. The students also learnt about what a day in the life of a convict would have looked like – their routines, work, rules and living conditions. The tales of daring escapes caught everyone’s imagination – especially Moondyne Joe, whose cell we saw and whose escapades we heard all about.
Lunch was a delight at Esplanade Park – lots of chatter, laughter and sunshine. Refreshed and curious, the students then headed to the WA Maritime Museum for a self-guided tour. In small groups they explored exhibits about Western Australia’s maritime history, ships, navigation and seafaring life.
A huge thank you to our parent helpers and to the wonderful tour guides and staff at Fremantle Prison and the Maritime Museum. Your support made the day both fun and full of learning.
