I trust that our parent body will enjoy the Primary School articles included in the Term 3 Newsletter. They reflect a small part of the many activities and events that make learning in the Primary School engaging. From classroom projects and excursions to sports carnivals, assemblies, musical performances, visiting incursions, and community service opportunities, Term 3 has been filled with rich learning experiences. These highlights represent just a glimpse of the wide range of activities our students have been involved in, all of which contribute to their growth academically, socially, and spiritually.
As we look ahead to Term 4, there is much for our Primary community to look forward to. Towards the end of the second week of the holidays, I will be sending out a Compass communication to all Primary families. This will include details about key events early in the new term:
- Book Fair
- Year 3–6 Athletics Carnival
- Swimming Lessons (Years 1–5)
- Academic Assembly
These occasions are always a highlight of the calendar, providing opportunities for our students to learn, celebrate, and grow together.
Supporting Children in the Early Years (Ages 5–8)
The early Primary years are a time of rapid development, where children are learning independence, confidence, and social skills. At home, you can support your child by:
- Encouraging small responsibilities, like packing their bag.
- Keeping daily routines predictable and consistent.
- Reading together regularly to strengthen both literacy and family connection.
- Making time for play, which builds creativity, resilience, and problem-solving skills.
Friendships in the Pre-Teen Years (Ages 9–12)
As children move into the pre-teen years, friendships become an important part of their world. Some children prefer one or two close friends, while others enjoy being part of a larger group. Both are perfectly normal — what matters is that your child feels content and supported.
If your child is struggling with friendships, some helpful approaches include:
- Follow their interests: Encourage involvement in clubs, sports, or activities they enjoy.
- Plan low-pressure social time: Arrange a relaxed BBQ, park outing, or playdate with family friends.
- Support home-based friendships: Make space for a friend to come over for a movie, baking, or board game.
- Encourage older pre-teens to try casual work or volunteering: This can build confidence and widen their social circle.
- Keep conversations open: Listen without pressure and celebrate their unique qualities.
Looking Ahead
Term 4 promises to be a wonderful way to round out the year, filled with opportunities for learning, achievement, and community connection.
Wishing our Primary School students a wonderful holiday and safe journeys to those who may be travelling our great state, interstate or abroad over the next fortnight.
We look forward to all students returning on Monday the 13th of October, to commence Term4, of the 2025 Academic Year.
