Year 1 Students Reflect on the Importance of Family

Year 1B students have begun the year by reflecting on their own families and the families of those around them. Together, we have explored what it means to be a family, learning that while every family is unique, all families are filled with love and they are precious gifts that God has given us.

Using a Reggio-inspired approach, students created illustrations of their family units using natural materials collected from their teachers’ gardens and the school environment. These hands-on experiences encouraged creativity, connection, and meaningful discussion.

Our inquiry into families also sparked curiosity about those who came before us. We wondered what life was like for our grandparents and great-grandparents and how families lived in the past. We are excited to continue exploring life in the ‘olden days’ with the support of our wonderful families, as students share special items and photographs from their own family histories.
