On the 19th May twenty music students ranging from years 7 to 10 travelled to Scotch College in Swanbourne for the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) “Act, Commit, Belong” concert for schools. Approximately 350 Students were entertained by an eighteen piece Jazz orchestra playing styles of Jazz from the early 1920’s to the late 60’s.
The orchestra was also joined by male and female vocalists on some of the repertoire which provided a balance between instrumental and vocal jazz music. Staff were also invited onto the stage to play percussion in a Latin style number with the band which was a little embarrassing, but entertaining to the students! The concert was very enjoyable; students were entertained and challenged seeing other young musicians perform at such a proficient level.
