Much work has been done in the past decade to show that parents can help children to build-on their children’s developmental progress across their childhood. We know, for example, that children will develop cognitively to do increasingly more complex activities. Whole school curricula are based on children’s abilities at certain ages. But, what we are also learning is that parents can help children become more aware of their emotions and therefore they can be coached to tolerate and manage their emotions. This ability to wrestle with strong emotions is very important in helping children to learn better at school. Something that has been demonstrated in the research on emotional intelligence over the past decade.
