SECONDARY BOOK CLUB

SCBC now offers a book club for secondary students. Meeting fortnightly in the College library, students who participate in the book club have an opportunity to read new books and share their reading experiences in a group discussion.

Literacy expert, Diane Snowball, stresses the importance of continual reading:

If you don’t read, you don’t get better. And if you’re not good at reading, you struggle with everything.’ ( ABC documentary series ‘Revolution School’)

The first novel for discussion is The Elijah Project, written by Bill Myers. This exciting series follows Zach and Piper, who aren’t the only ones to notice their little brother Elijah’s supernatural gifts. Something evil also is paying attention, and the children must draw strength from heaven while being pursued by the powers of darkness. Parents are encouraged to read the book alongside their children to enhance the reading process and stimulate conversation about themes presented in the novel.
