SHAUN TAN ART AWARD

This term, the SCBC primary students were given the opportunity to enter a piece of artwork into the annual Shaun Tan Art Award for Young Artists. This award is open to all students in Western Australia. The City of Subiaco received 1235 entries in the award. A panel of expert judges carefully selected the best fifty works across the five age categories to be displayed in the exhibition. Once all entries were submitted a panel of judges selected 10 top artworks for each category (lower primary, middle primary and upper primary). Lily’s entry placed in the top 10 of the upper primary category.

We had 25 students from across the primary school at South Coast Baptist College enter a wonderfully diverse range of pieces of artwork! After sending them in, Lily Carey from 5C has been selected as a finalist for the upper primary category with her art ‘Ballet Shoes’.

Lily explained that her artwork was inspired by how she used to do Ballet and how much she loved it. Lily also discussed how she fondly remembered her family fostering a young child and they shared their love for Ballet.

Lily’s art work will be professionally mounted, framed and displayed in an exhibition at Subiaco Library from the 10th July to the 6th August. Visitors to the library can vote for their favourite artwork in the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced on Thursday 27 July. Congratulations to Lily and all the other students who entered their artwork into the award!
