Throughout semester one Digital Media students have been involved in a program called Just Start IT.  The aim of the course is to create technology startups through collaboration, exploration, discovery, and creativity.

Students are encouraged to problem solve and apply critical thinking to multiple aspects of business.  Teams are divided into Hackers – computer programmers and web developers, Hawkers – business, finance, marketing and sales, and Hipsters – creatives, artists, and user experience designers.

Two SCBC teams went forward to an industry judging panel at Edith Cowan University.  One team built a prototype app to help students who struggle to start and maintain conversations.  Another team developed a business concept for an app to help restaurants attract customers with special dietary requirements.  One team was successful and are going through to the finals where they can gain funding to launch and win $5000.
