FROM THE PRINCIPAL…

Dear Parents,

High aspirations; it’s contagious

Last Newsletter, I shared coming into this year with a very strong sense of uplifting high aspirations for the educational journey for each of our students. We want our young people to engage in areas of interest and personal strength. We want them to develop an appetite for wonderment, to fan their flame of curiosity.

I’ve recently been immersed in the University of Melbourne’s educational culture. It is the highest ranked University in Australia. The education faculty is the highest ranked in the University, and currently ranked 6th highest faculty in the world. In the big picture, there are 45,000 students and 4,000 staff, all on 36 hectares of land. There is an extraordinary amount of academic activity happening, in multiple disciplines of knowledge. New insights are emerging from research every day.

After an intensive day of classes on the weekend, I stepped out and took the below picture.

When I raised my eyes above the busy cleverness of the university programmes, I’m reminded of God’s warmth and His overarching architecture of our lives.

At SCBC we gratefully acknowledge God’s provision, and seek to honour Him with personal excellence in all our pursuits.

We are not the University of Melbourne, but we do have God’s overarching warmth. I hope all SCBC students will embrace the daily opportunities to discover their talents, and passionately live with the self-knowledge that they have been wonderfully created in the image of God.

God’s creative excellence is inspiring.

FYI – On Thursday we officially open our new building. On campus will be local leaders and representatives from the Commonwealth of Australia.

New Director of Childcare

In this newsletter, it is also a pleasure to welcome SCBC’s new Director of Childcare, Marion Briers.

Marion has informed staff at Carey Baptist College that she will be commencing a new chapter of service with us here at South Coast Baptist College on Tuesday

Marion is passionate about the well-being of children and loves the joy they bring into our lives. She brings with her over 35 years of experience in Early Childhood Education and Care. Marion has developed and lead; private for profit, not for profit, community and large commercial multiple site services, including establishing & owning her own centre.

Her experience includes supporting remote families in the Kimberley of WA, delivering training for students attending Charles Sturt University, Pundulmurra Pilbara TAFE campus, and North Metropolitan TAFE. For the last 10 years, she has pioneered the emergence of ‘Jump Carey Early Development’, and ‘Jump Parenting Support’ services. Both are considered world-class services.

Marion knows she is coming into a Centre where staff delight in the children. If you get to meet her, please help her feel welcome into our community.
