From 16th to 27th July 2018, our Year 11 student, Daniel Rutherford had the amazing experience of representing Australia as part of a team of 5 students at the International Young Physicist’s Tournament (IYPT) held in Beijing, China. He had been selected due to his excellent performance in the Australian national tournament while trained in the school’s STEM Physics Specialist Program. 32 countries took part in IYPT 2018. Teams were given a year to prepare open ended questions such as levitating objects using sound. It was a thrilling time of presenting and analysing findings in Physics discussions. Australia emerged 22nd. Our Head of Science, Mr Peter van der Kwast, and Physics teacher, Mr Gideon Choo, travelled with the team. Mr Choo was a team coach and also adjudicated in the tournament.
