CONNECTING WITH FAMILIES

~ Sometimes it is the simplest of things that makes the biggest difference ~

To our wonderful SCBC community,

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our families old and new to join us in a wonderful and exciting new year. We have lots planned for everyone in 2019.

Educator Placements

Every year educators are assigned to different age groups, some move up with graduating children, some remain with children staying in enrolled rooms and others are given completely new roles. All educators are offered the opportunity to undertake a variety of shifts so you may see them early in the morning or at closing time, depending on the times you drop off and collect your children. Let me take the time to introduce you to the Curriculum Leaders and their team.

CONNECTING WITH FAMILIES

“When you enrol a child you actually enrol a family”

Each child is, first and foremost, a member of a family. Parents and other family members are a child’s first and most important teachers. When we work with a child we are also working with their family, and often with the wider community, too. We aim to provide authentic opportunities for families to be involved in, and contribute to their child’s learning. To begin this process, we ask for information about your child in the enrolment pack. This information enables us to develop a program based on the interests of your child. However, nothing is as effective as direct communication between family members and educators. Sharing information about your family life such as holidays, new skills or adventures or even sharing a concern that you may have with your child’s development, allows us to work together to build on their sense of belonging and enhance their learning and development.

A great way to engage with our Centre is through EDUCA. Our educators share observations that linked to curriculum goals in EDUCA, for educational context. Families members can engage and provide feedback, and are now better placed to constructively continue the learning at home. You also have a peace of mind that you are always connected, as stories are posted daily and you can check out your child’s online portfolio at any time.

Parent Resource Library

We have a small number of resources (Books and DVD’s) available for families and children to borrow on a number of subjects, located in the reception area. If you would like to borrow any of the titles available, please see Susanna or Michelle.

This Month Feature is “The 5 Languages of Love for Children” By Gary Champ and Ross Campbell. “Every child has a unique way of feeling loved. When you discover your child’s love language and how to speak it, you can build a solid foundation for your child trust you and flourish as they grow.”

Slip Slop Slap and Slide

The South Coast Baptist College Childcare is recognized as a “Sunsmart” Centre and as such we promote the five elements of being safe in our outdoor environment.

  1. Slip on a shirt
  2. Slop on some sunscreen
  3. Slap on a hat
  4. Seek some shade
  5. Slide on your sunnies!

Our Centre provides 50+ sunscreen for your child during the time that they attend the Centre. If your child requires a sensitive sunscreen, please provide the brand that you would prefer to use.

Centre Events

We are so excited to release the Centre events for 2019. Each month our Centre will partake in National events happening around the world. Intentional experiences are added to the programming to extend their development as we encourage a sense of community and belonging to a greater cause.

On the 14th of February our Centre celebrated National Wear Red Day to honor those affected by heart disease. We encourage families to visit https://www.heartresearch.com.au/heart-disease/simple-steps/ to follow the simple steps to a Healthy Heart and increase their awareness of who Heart Research Australia are and the amazing work that they do.

We are looking forward to planning our next event in March. Harmony Week! The week runs from 15–21 March every year and encourages everyone to experience, explore and appreciate WA’s wealth of cultural, religious, linguistic and ethnic diversity. Our Centre will host a Harmony Day Picnic at the Centre, on Thursday the 21st of March 2019 and invites all of the families and extended families to attend. BYO a picnic and come and celebrate the beauties of diversity with us.

Happy Feet

Happy Feet Fitness is the award winning brainchild of husband and wife team, Donna and Cam McColl. Donna is an accredited and well respected fitness leader and Cam is a professional children’s entertainer, magician and musician. Their joint appreciation of health, fitness and general wellbeing spurred the desire to educate and inspire young children to make healthy choices; it was the catalyst for creating the hugely popular Happy Feet Fitness program. If you would like to know more information about Happy Feet Fitness and how you can join, just pick up a leaflet at the Reception Desk or email info@happyfeetfitness.com.au. We still have not had news of Miss Mels new arrival, but we will be sure to keep you all updated.
