INAUGURAL W.A. PRIMARY SCHOOL FUTSAL REGIONAL AND STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

This year was a first for Indoor Soccer (Futsal) at a Primary School State level and South Coast Baptist College performed exceptionally well at the highest level. The results of the College, located in Waikiki, at this year’s tournament are outlined in the following article.

To make the State Finals the teams had to place in first or second place in a metropolitan zone competition. This involved the students travelling to the Ballajura Futsal Centre on Tuesday November the 27th. At this event the boys played against teams from Banksia Park, Coogee, Leeming, Parkwood, Leda and Phoenix. The girls teams played opposition from Rosalie, Peter Moyes Anglican College, Fremantle, Coolbellup and West Leederville. The South Coast teams played well enough at this tournament to qualify for the finals. Coach Chris Thackray said, “The boys put on a fantastic display of football with some individual brilliance and solid team performances.” Chris also commented, “The girls from our College show the that the future ahead is bright. They gained valuable experience for oncoming years in this competition with most of our girls still eligible to play again next year.”

The Inaugural State Futsal Finals were held at the Pro Futsal Centre in Bibra Lake on Friday evening, the 7th of December. Both the boys and girls teams progressed through to the grand finals. The state Grand Final result in the Primary Boys division was South Coast Baptist College 17 Phoenix Primary 0. In the Primary Schoolgirls’ School State Futsal Tournament the South Coast team were Runner Up Champions, with Rosalie Primary proving too strong with a 9 goal to 3 victory.

South Coast Baptist College Primary School Boys now hold the Stan Lazaridis State Championship for Football and the State Futsal Championship Cups. The girls made the semi-finals of the State Football Championships and were runners up in the State Futsal Girls competition.
