YEAR 2 EXCURSION

On Wednesday, 4th September, SCBC Year 2 students attended an excursion to Perth City Farm.

Perth City Farm is an Urban farm located alongside the train line in East Perth. The site was once a toxic wasteland but is now a thriving community garden and cultural hub benefiting everyone.

During the farm tour, the students learnt about permaculture, living sustainable lives and food production. A highlight was walking through the community garden and attempting to guess the wide variety of vegetables and plants that were growing (we also had some sneaky taste sampling).

The farm tour caused us to stop and rethink our waste and its effect on the environment. The students loved picking and tasting mulberries off the tree, patting some of the chickens and roosters and tasting from the ice cream tree. On the excursion, we learnt that there are many simple changes we can make to live ethical and sustainable lives.
