FOOTBALL ACADEMY

Term three has been jam packed full of matches and finals for our Football Academy teams. We have seen players develop in both technical skill and character as they have progressed through the program, and it was very heart-warming to see so much success and growth in our students. All of our first teams made it to finals, having quality matches and team performances to come out with the following for 2023.

The Junior Girls beat Lynwood Senior High School 1-0 to secure the title of Junior Girls State Champions. Our Goalkeeper, Ava Fitzpatrick, was awarded MVP of the match.

Our Senior Girls won the ACC Schools championship against Mercy College 2-0. Brooke Burdett was awarded MVP of the match.

Our Junior Boys made it to the semi-final, losing to Lynwood Senior High in an admirable effort.

The Intermediate Boys won the grand final 3-1 against Lake Joondalup Baptist College. Roland Ballah was awarded MVP of the match.

The Senior Boys defeated Mercy College 9-5 in over-time to secure the State Championship title. Alex Da Rocha was awarded MVP of the match.

Our Junior Girls won on the same afternoon that the Matildas won their must win game. Yeah the girls! Seeing how the Football Academy has grown over the years and the pathways created more recently for the girls program has been fantastic. A huge thankyou to Doug Hesketh and Charli Wainwright who coordinate the Girls Football Academy and are committed to leading this area and helping students strive for excellence. We are so thankful for you both!

A highlight of the year, and maybe even the decade, was the Grand Final match with the Senior Boys. Both the organisers and coaches said it was one of the most entertaining, uniquely high scoring football games they have ever seen. We reminisced with staff and parents about where the students started, with lots of the boys first coming to South Coast in Primary School for a brand new Football Program to now seeing them play their final match for the college and being weeks away from graduating high school. A huge thankyou goes to Matthew Brook, Chris Thackray and the coaches and staff that have helped these students get to where they are today.

To all our teams and players, well done for your perseverance, effort and passion for Football and learning. Whether you won a grand final or were a reserve that sat on the bench, you are a valuable part of our College and of you we are immensely proud.
