Our Extension and Enrichment Young Writers recently attended their third Young Writers Program session at the State Library of Western Australia, hosted by the Literacy Centre.

This session featured local mystery author Ash Arrier, who shared valuable insights into the craft of writing suspenseful stories, developing intriguing characters, and building tension that keeps readers turning pages. Students were fascinated by Ash’s journey as an author and gained a deeper understanding of the creative process behind bringing a story to life.

As this was the third session in the program, students have continued to build their confidence, refine their writing skills, and connect with a community of like-minded young writers from across Perth. Experiences such as these help nurture a love of storytelling while encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression.

The focus now shifts to a new challenge, with students preparing entries for the upcoming Book Links Short Story Competition. The group has a strong track record, with one of our young writers claiming first place in the last competition they entered. With the talent, commitment, and enthusiasm on display throughout these sessions, we are excited to see what this year’s writers can achieve. Watch this space!
