Our Year 5 and Year 6 Art Enrichment Group has taken the first step in an exciting creative journey inspired by the theme Where Ocean Meets Beach. Drawing on their observations of Western Australia’s coastline, students explored a range of artistic techniques to create unique interpretations of the ocean’s meeting with the shore. Their artworks showcase impressive creativity and diversity, featuring textured sandy beaches, rolling waves, marine life, dramatic sunsets, and the ever-changing colours and moods of the sea. These pieces represent the beginning of a larger project as students prepare for a competition centred on the Catalpa Rescue, one of Western Australia’s most extraordinary historical events.

Over the coming weeks, students will deepen their understanding of this remarkable story through a visit to Fremantle Prison, where they will experience The Flight of the Fenians exhibition and participate in a Prison Convict Tour. To further enhance their artistic practice, students will also work alongside local artist Amy Wilkinson from Craft and Canvas, who will lead a specialised workshop designed to refine techniques and help students transform historical inspiration into meaningful competition artworks. The creativity, individuality and talent displayed in these first pieces have been outstanding.
