Studio Atelier Term 3

Term 3 in the studio has been super busy and also very productive. At this stage in the year, the time our kids have put into developing their creative skills and the use of the creative tools available to them starts to pay off, not in a way that they would necessarily notice themselves as we focus on learning through play, I have definitely noticed and am very proud of their work.

We’ve been making paper mâché planets, adding the use of real tools (hammers and nails, screws and screwdrivers), to our Makedo tools, practising our ukulele strumming skills, scanning a whole lot of interesting things into Microsoft Paint, doing a ton of digital drawing and a little bit of 3D sculpting with our drawing tablets, playing with shadow puppets from familiar stories (Going On A Bear Hunt and The Three Little Pigs), mixing up bubble paints with an electric mixer, drumming (for our Minasan (OSHC) kids, sometimes following along with a metronome or pre-programmed beats on our keyboards), constructing with giant LEGO, singing songs, exploring musical instruments (including a glockenspiel, musical bells, keyboards, ukuleles, a kalimba, and a couple of synthesizer/sequencers from Blipbox), learning to draw using shapes as building blocks, and using our Chomp Saw to make dinosaurs, sea creatures, multiple Spider-Men, a “Whale that flies with its tail”, and a “Spidersaur” (invented by a couple of our Koorlongka kids).

As always, we have also carried out a ton of experiments with various painting tools and collage materials, mixing our own colours and creating a ton of interesting paintings and collages with all kinds of materials both flat and 3D.
