MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY

Term four is traditionally a very busy term for our staff and students.  Our Primary School has been its usual hive of activity with lots of wonderful and exciting things taking place. Over the past week’s parents, grandparents, friends and staff have been both entertained and appreciative of the talents of our wonderful students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

The term began with our Year 3 to 6 House Athletics Carnival, where we saw students from these year groups participate in 113 tabloid events across the day. Seventy-three of our Year 4 to 6 students performed in our 2018 Musical ‘Aladdin’ Trouble’, with the choral backing of our Year 4 choirs. Some of our Primary Staff and families also made cameo appearances in the musical, though they were hardly recognisable!

Our Primary School interschool athletes placed second out of nine schools in the WACSSA Division 1 Athletics Carnival, only 29 points behind the first placed school. We had ninety of our Year 4 to 6 students recognised at the 2018 Primary School Academic Assembly. Awards were presented in a range of areas including academic achievement and excellence in literacy and numeracy, citizenship, leadership and in Science. Our College Quiz Night was well attended and raised over $2000 towards the Primary School thanks to some great sponsorship. Primary School students have even enjoyed a day of education in the outdoors this term!

We have been involved in several transition events for new and existing families, introducing many new students to our Kindergarten program and transitioning our Year 6 students to their secondary schooling program. We still have some events taking place over the next four weeks that I would like to invite our families to, as we conclude the 2018 academic year. These include the following:

  • Kindy and P-Primary Presentation Evening – SCBC Hall – Thursday 22nd November – 5.30pm
  • Years 3 & 4 Presentation Evening – SCBC Hall – Monday 26th November – 5.00pm
  • Years 5 & 6 Presentation Evening – SCBC Hall – Monday 26th November – 7.00pm
  • Years 1 & 2 Presentation Evening – SCBC Hall – Wednesday 28th November – 5.30pm
  • Year 6 Graduation Assembly 2018 – SCBC Hall – Friday 30th November – 8.50am

In the midst of teaching and learning, preparation for these events, presentation evenings and community activities, we are mindful of the need to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. People all over the world will be celebrating Christmas and sharing with family the joy that this time of the year brings. We trust that you will enjoy our 2018 Presentation Evenings that focus on ‘Celebrating Christmas’. These evenings focus on each and every one of our Primary students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and acknowledge their positive contributions across the academic year.

Primary School classes will conclude for the summer break on Friday the 7th December 2018 with students returning for the 2019 academic year on Monday the 4th February 2019. On behalf of Primary Staff and I would like to thank the parents and friends of our Primary School students for your continued support and to wish you and your family a restful and reflective Christmas time and a New Year of health and happiness.

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”  Luke 2 v 14
